Regular Maintenance for Performance & Longevity
Maintaining your Airsoft Replica is another key part of replica-ownership that transfers over from the “real-steel” world. Regular maintenance not only adds to that relationship you have with your replica, but also improves performance and helps avoid potential failures due to dirt build up and drying seals.
Low Friction & Anti-Corrosion
Silicone is favoured as a lubricant due to its impressive performance lubricating plastic, rubber and metal components together, all materials often found in Airsoft Replicas. Regular cleaning and treatment using this Silicone Oil will result in an Airsoft Replica running more smoothly to improve its function, and will also prevent excessive wear to components. Its Anti-Corrosive qualities will also protect your replica from rust build up. It is therefore a great idea to treat your replica pre & post match with a bit of silicone spray to help keep all components in good working condition.
Treat those Seals!
Gas-Blow-Back Airsoft Replicas performance is heavily reliant on treating & maintaining the O-Rings & Seals found throughout the replica. Whilst many premium ‘Airsoft Gasses’ contain silicone inside to help maintain these seals, other elements within the gas can have a negative affect on seals which results in a real ‘uphill battle’ for the silicone. Then there are CO2 powered replicas. Whilst it is possible to have ‘maintenance bulbs’ that contain silicone within, the same logic applies – it’s always going to be tough for that silicone to completely maintain those seals, and a bit of help from a dedicated Silicone Spray post-match will really extend the life of your replica.
Silicone lubricates & conditions rubber O-Rings and helps maintain the key features of the O-Ring required for replica performance. These are primarily its size and flexibility as O-Rings that are allowed to degrade without regular treatment will shrink, crack and lose elasticity – resulting in gas leaks. There is nothing more frustrating than arriving for game day and realising an O-Ring has failed and requires replacing.
