Anyone who has had their hands on a KYDEX Holster before will appreciate the almost mythical quality of this material when used to holster sidearms. KYDEX is a thermoplastic that can be easily manipulated to its desired shape and then offers long lasting firmness & rigidity for years to come. This rigidity, combined with a waxy interior and adjustment screws is where the magic really comes together.

Draw Strength vs Security

Without a retention lever, how does the KYDEX Holster securely hold your sidearm whilst maintaining access? Due to its ‘perfect’ shape when moulded, the holster has a very high contact area with your sidearm, so when you tighten/ loosen the adjustment screws you are altering the grip strength the entire holster applies to the pistol. Conversely, the interior of the holster is finished in a waxy finish that offers a low-friction surface, allowing your sidearm to glide in and out of the holster. So, when setting up your holster, you are seeking a sweet spot between the increased friction achieved by its shape & contact area, whilst not tightening it too much that the grip overcomes the ‘glide’ offered by the wax interior – and what a sweet-spot it is, offering excellent retention qualities whilst your sidearm is easily drawable without needing to touch a lever/ release button.
